About the 3rd Canadian HIV & Aging Symposium
The 3rd Canadian HIV & Aging Symposium, aptly titled: HIV and Aging WELL: WE Live & Learn Together, is co-hosted by Realize and the CIHR Canadian HIV Trials Network (CTN) Clinical Care Management Core. This event will facilitate information exchange and feature a diverse group of esteemed speakers and panelists, each with a unique perspective on the intersection of HIV and aging, including:
- Older adults and people aging with HIV
- Clinical, community-based and laboratory researchers
- Clinicians; and
- Policy change advocates.
The symposium agenda will frame well-being in a comprehensive way (physical, mental, emotional, sexual, financial and social) and take into account how overlapping social identities impact a person’s experience of aging with HIV (sometimes called intersectionality). Themes include: social priorities and service access; biomedical and clinical issues; diverse perspectives on aging with HIV; and considerations of gender.*
About the HIV & Aging “Unconference”
This one-day “unconference” is reserved for people living with HIV in Canada who self-identify as aging or older adults. This event will feature opportunities for peer networking, skills-building workshops and self- and community-care activities*. The agenda for the “unconference” will complement that of the symposium and community members are encouraged to attend both events!
*The agendas for both the symposium and the “unconference” are currently being finalized and will be posted in the coming weeks.
Simultaneous English/French interpretation will be provided for both the symposium and the “unconference”.
Sign language interpretation will be made available upon request. Please indicate your request below.
