The Episodic Caregiver Support Initiative (ESCI), undertaken by CWGHR and researchers at the University of Guelph’s Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition, sought to uncover and better understand the needs of family/friend caregivers of people living with episodic disabilities. You can read the executive summary ( Episodic Caregiver Support Initiative Executive Summary ) of the final project report at the link provided. The ESCI has recently received some very positive media coverage. Two articles written by Wendy Porch were published about the initiative in magazine distributed across Canada. “The Episodic Caregiver Support Initiative” is on page 18 of the Spring Edition of Abilities Magazine. Additionally, an article entitled “New Ways of Thinking About Caregiving” appears on page 25 of the Spring Edition of Rehab & Community Care Medicine Magazine. One of the aims for the project was to raise awareness of episodic caregivers and these articles, plus a recent poster presentation at the Canadian Association for Health Services and Policy Research Conference are a step in the right direction!
