The Board of Directors of the Canadian Working Group on HIV and Rehabilitation (CWGHR) is pleased to announce that Tammy C. Yates has been selected as the new Executive Director (ED). The selection was made after an extensive national search and recruitment process, which was managed by executive recruitment firm Odgers Berndtson.
“We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” reported Board Co-Chair Glyn Townson. “Tammy’s wealth of experience and demonstrated leadership in the HIV sector will help CWGHR to move forward in its mission to be a leader and catalyst for improved rehabilitation for people living with HIV and related conditions through integrated research, education, policy and practice.”
Tammy’s resumé includes over a decade of senior management, administration and communications experience in the non-profit and international development sectors. She originally joined the CWGHR Team in January 2013 and will serve as the Manager of Programs and Communications until her date of appointment on February 16, 2015. Prior to joining CWGHR, Tammy was the Officer-In-Charge/National Program Manager of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Trinidad & Tobago Branch Office. She has extensive experience in Gender & Development and Sexual & Reproductive Health, including HIV/AIDS, having worked previously with the Secretariat of the Caribbean Regional Network of Persons Living With HIV (CRN+) and serving as Chair of the Theme Group on Gender of the United Nations System in Trinidad & Tobago. She is a graduate of Wolfson College, Cambridge University, England and the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad.
David Salter, Co-Chair of the Board of Directors said, “We take this opportunity to extend a very special thank you to Stephen (Steve) Tattle for ‘steering the CWGHR ship’ as Interim Executive Director over the last fourteen months, which have been a period of intense transition for the organization. Steve, as usual, went above and beyond the call of duty and we remain grateful for his contribution. Fortunately, we will not say goodbye for at least the next three months as he remains a part of our team as a Consultant.”
“I am thrilled to become the new Executive Director and look forward to continuing to work and partner with all CWGHR’s stakeholders in this new capacity,” remarks Tammy. “I have always been and will continue to be passionate about this sector and having had the privilege to work with our founding Executive Director, Elisse Zack, I pledge to build on the work that she started in 1998 and fulfill the new vision for the organization as outlined in our 2014 – 2017 Strategic Plan.”
