Catherine Nasije
My name is Catherine Nasije and I am a member of Realize. I live in the Greater Toronto Area and work as a Technical Lead in Digital Accessibility supporting companies and organizations to make their digital content accessible for users with disabilities.
Realize was my first employer when I graduated from University. At the time, it was the Canadian Working Group on HIV and Rehabilitation (CWGHR) with the very committed late Elisse Zack as the Executive Director. Realize then, was mostly focused on doing research, education and advocating for policies to support individuals living with HIV, and since that time, the organization’s mandate has broadened to include ‘episodic disabilities’ – in which it is the national leader.
I found purpose working for Realize for over five years as a Software Developer and Project Coordinator. While working at Realize, I was introduced to making digital content accessible – something I am truly passionate about, have pursued as a career, and for which I continue to advocate. When I transitioned to a new job, I continued to participate in different capacities afterwards as a member and well-wisher.
My involvement with Realize ebbs and flows based upon my work-life balance and what’s on at the organization at the time, but I continue to follow and support the important work Realize is doing to improve the lives of people living with HIV and/or other episodic disabilities. I have also made some great friends along the journey that I am thankful for.
One thing I have “realized” about life is that inner peace is a master healer. I pursue it tirelessly.
