Episodic Disabilities and Working on Your Own is an immersive learning experience for self-employed and micro business leaders in Canada.
The idea for this course came through formal and informal conversations with self-employed and micro-business leaders looking for a space to navigate the unique challenges of living with episodic disabilities while running a business.
Living with one or more episodic disabilities presents various challenges, including the uncertainty of health management, access to resources, and finding and maintaining relationships of trust.
This course is an immersive learning experience. Immersion in a learning context means taking a deep dive. For this course, as someone living with one or more episodic disabilities, the material is personal and perhaps sensitive at times. This may create feelings of vulnerability, but you won’t be alone.
While this course is a peer-supported space to discuss issues relevant to you, it does not provide mental health counselling or personalized life coaching. If you’d benefit from supports for day-to-day life management, you’re encouraged to reach out to professionals in your area.
As a participant, it’s anticipated that you will give time and energy to the modules so you can take a next step or two along your journey of living and leading with an episodic disability.
During the three weeks of the course, we’ll review one module per week. Each module will have remotely delivered content for review on the learning platform. In addition, for participants who are part of a learning cohort, each week will also have an opportunity to build relationships and share collective wisdom through a group Zoom session.
Everyone taking this course is a self-employed/micro business leader living with one or more episodic disabilities. If you’re part of a cohort, you’ll work on each course module together. For participants in a cohort, there will be sharing of personal circumstances. Within the group, protecting individual privacy is central to the wellbeing of everyone taking the course. We’ll talk more about that as we move into the course.
To facilitate deeper learning when reviewing online modules on your own, it’s helpful to revisit the content more than once.
Pause to think about your health and work circumstances at each phase of the course. Your insights and takeaways from the course will be personal to you and your work circumstances.
