Introduction to Episodic Disabilities for Post-Secondary Students includes a slide deck and accompanying facilitator guidebook for instructional use in post-secondary settings. Realize developed the minilecture to aide in your course planning and instruction by introducing students to the context, terminology, and experience of living with episodic disabilities.
You may have heard the phrase episodic disability or similar terms describing chronic, often invisible, unpredictable forms of disability. Episodic disability is even included in the Accessible Canada Act (2019), but little is known generally about:
- what an episodic disability is
- how an episodic disability impacts daily living and long-term planning for people living with health episodes
- why this is an important topic now
- how to communicate about living with episodic disabilities
The guidebook and accompanying slide deck are intended to bridge gaps in the fundamentals of episodic disabilities and their impact on daily life by providing this instructional tool, copyrighted for limited use in academic settings, free-of-charge.
Realize’s intent is for this content to be used as one element within a broader lesson about disability and accessibility within courses and/or departments like, but not limited to:
- Human Resources Management
- Business Management
- Workplace Accommodation
- Social Work
- Social Justice and Disability Studies
- Post-Secondary Administration
- Educational Leadership
The material in the slide deck may be selected to focus the discussion in a way that is relevant to your field of study as long as branding and content acknowledgement remain with Realize.
Post-secondary instructors can access the PowerPoint slide deck and accompanying facilitator guide by providing the following information:
